The convenient Japanese coffee. It’s one of my tools for a day packed full of temple touring, shrine visits and shinkansen travel. This Kyoto Matcha (Green Tea) Latte 「京都抹茶ラテ」 was actually purchased from a convenience store in Nagoya.

The bitter sweet taste of green tea in coffee and chocolate is amazing. Many people think it an odd combination, but quite the opposite, it’s a match made by the kami themselves!

This type of coffee is generally found in convenience stores and cost about ¥200. It is served in a cardboard cup, with a foil sealed lid for freshness. This sealed lid is also great for traveling, as it prevents spillage. This particular Starbucks Discoveries coffee is an “iced coffee”, perfect for the warmer months.

Usually when I’m traveling I have a very early start to the day. The night before I will grab one of these coffees to drink as I get ready in my hotel or ryokan room early in the morning.
