Share

Snow in Tokyo is not rare, throughout the winter months on average there is up to 5mm of snow. But on Saturday 8 February 2014, 27mm (almost 1 foot) of snow was recorded in the city. Deaths, injuries and accidents spiked in the record snow fall all around the country.

However among the doom and gloom, many enjoyed snow covered sites of Japan on Sunday…

Snow in Tokyo

Snow in Tokyo at Shibuya’s famous pedestrian crossing on Saturday night.

If you’re a Twitter user (insert shameless self-promotion here: follow me @JapanTravelMate) you would have seen many photos over the weekend from people enjoying (or battling) the snow in Tokyo.

Today’s Mainichi Photo comes from one of my favourite photographers based in Japan, known only as ajpscs – be sure to check out his Flickr profile. He lives in Tokyo and frequently posts great photographic art and High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography of this massive metropolis.
