I‘m usually a very healthy person. Most of my meals are organic. But when I’m traveling Japan, I only really get a decent meal in at dinner time. While I love Japanese food, I want to spend my day light hours seeing various sites. At night I usually treat myself to something very nice, like all-you-can-eat and all-you-can-drink at an izakaya.
So when I’m in travel mode in Japan, I often go to the nearest convenience store to pickup breakfast.
Breakfast from a convenience store in Japan
This particular “meal” was purchased from the Asnas convenience store near Hotel New Hankyu, Umeda Station and Osaka Stations.
If you look at what I typically buy for breakfast, it’s not that unhealthy:
- Oronamin C Drink (an energy drink with caffeine and vitamin C)
- Asahi Cereal Whip Bar (a breakfast bar)
- Maguro (tuna) onigiri (rice and seeweed snack)
- Sandwiches (ham, cheese and egg)
- Fire Coffee (sweet coffee with milk)
Total price is about ¥750.
Japan’s convenience stores have great food. Sushi is fresh and there many types of foods including noodles, salads, pasta, rice balls, sandwiches and bakery items, protein snacks and more. In any other country I just wouldn’t go near a convenience store for a decent meal.
